NOVA Exteriors, Inc. and Traco Manufacturing, along with 40 other companies participated with the University Of Delaware in this very worthwhile contest. It was the intention of all participants to create a home that had a ZERO cost for heating, cooling, hot water and electricity. To that end the project was 100% successful.
In fact, there were 13 other universities from around the nation in the competition. The homes were built on the mall in Washington, D.C. in September of 2002. The home built by the University of Delaware was then dismantled and rebuilt at the university for further study of energy efficient technologies and will remain there for approximately 3 years. It will then be re-erected at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA for the general public to view and tour.
NOVA Exteriors, Inc. installed 33 Traco 911 Series windows with Low-E Glass/Krypton Gas and a third pane of Heat Mirror, which is a treated Mylar film and virtually weightless. The windows have an R-Value of 8.3 and are an excellent insulator in summer and in winter. Below are related links if you would like to know more about the project.
